Entries are flowing in fast for the 2017 edition of the Wigan Trail 10k race. We are currently 50/50 Club and non-club runners which is great as we always like a good mix of runners taking part. As usual we have a fairly equal mix of the sexes which seem to show we appeal to all!
One addition we made this year was to add additional prizes available to clubs that had more than 12 entries. The purpose of this was to both reward the support of other local clubs and make our race an attractive proposition to a Club’s Championship schedule. We are pleased to say it’s been popular and that so far two clubs have already met this criteria. St Helens Striders are just a whisker away, so any Striders out there if you manage to cajole a fellow club member to enter there’s a Club prize available for you guys too! The only question now is which club will have the largest number of entries!
|Astley & Tyldesley Road Runners
|Wesham Road Runners
|St Helens Striders
|Wigan & District Harriers & Ac
|Liverpool Running Club
Please note as we need to have time to sort PIE logistics that entries will close slightly earlier on 1st May so don’t delay.

Wigan Trail 10k 2016 results
We look forward to seeing you again next year and will release the date in due course. Thank you.
Well most of the rain missed us and it was another successful Wigan Trail 10k race. Well done to our 140 finishers who did brilliantly on a warm humid morning. There were plenty of determined runners who secured excellent times.
Over the next few days there will be news reports and photos but for now here’s the important results. If you spot any omissions please let us know and we will try to amend. Once again thanks for your support, we can’t do it without you! 😊
This coming Sunday – 10th July at 10.30 am is the date for this year’s race. Pre entry for the race has closed but fear not the registration desk will be open at 9.00 am for issuing numbers and taking further entries.
We look forward to having another successful event on the runner friendly paths of Amberswood Nature Reserve, known as one of Wigan’s Greenhearts for good reason.
Come and join us!
Wigan Trail 10k in it’s 5th year organised by Wigan Harriers is now open for entry.
Amberswood the setting for the race is known as one of Wigan’s Greenhearts so it should be no surprise to anyone what a fantastic area it is to run in, but surprised is what first timers often are. The ex mining land is now a blend of woodland, meadow and lakes which has developed into a very natural setting and is superb for running.
The majority of the race is on excellent tracks with the route taking in some of the fine woodland. What appeals to many runners is how good the tracks are to run on and helped by how flat the course is, it really helps produce some excellent times.
A water station is positioned halfway round the course run by some of our enthusiastic marshals.
The finish of the race is in front of the club house so an ideal spot for friends and family to watch the runners make the final dash for the line, cheering them home. They can then all enjoy a refreshing drink whilst the pies are baking in the oven. It’s usually a fantastic day for everyone.
We look forward to welcoming runners of all abilities to join at Amberswood and encourage you to pre-enter today.

With just over three weeks to go to this next year’s Wigan Trail Race, the final preparations are now being made. Today we are pleased to share the new route for the 2.5k fun run.
The 2.5k fun run is suitable for everyone….children, family and have a go heroes and there is a medal for all fun run finishers.
10k with free pie and peas for pre entries or 2.5k with a shiny medal, what are you waiting for?
The new race routes.
We are excited to share that for the 5th year of this popular race organised by Wigan Harriers there will be a number of improvements to help the development of this successful event. This year’s race takes place on Sunday 28th June.
We have retained everything you told us you liked….good paths, flat terrain, great scenery, enthusiastic marshals, changing facilities… but improved it further.
The introduction of Pie ‘n’ Peas for pre-entries last year helped swell the field to a record of 237 so we really needed to see how we could cater for the growth of enthusiasm for running in the Wigan area. Don’t worry the changes aren’t affecting the pies, they are still on offer if you enter real fast!!
What we have done is to modify the course slightly so we can accommodate greater runners more easily. The registration is still at Spring View Sports and Community Club and the finish remains there too but we have moved the start just into the Amberswood nature reserve to improve the race. You can get a closer look at the route at the link below but don’t worry it will be well signed and marshaled to guide you smoothly round.
The new 10k course
The course is measured by our course planner as 10k with only 25 metres of ascent – that’s flat and should give you a chance to fulfill your potential!!

Afterwards whilst you are munching your way through a pie in the bar our race statisticians will be rapidly collating the results and calculating which of you have won prizes – don’t forget there are age category prizes so stick around and enjoy the atmosphere.
