Race Report by Mark Glynn:
I have been encouraging colleagues to take take part in this event for 4 years now. This former Corporate Event has evolved over the years to be a family friendly challenge to encourage people from the local area to get fit and active. Teams of 4 must have at least 1 lady and the race is run over a fast flat course within the grounds of Knowsley Hall with the fastest aggregate time winning the team prize.
Most of the runners from work are people that run this as their main challenge for the year, but there was a good turn out of Wigan Harriers that were happy to try a fast mid week alternative to the hilly stuff that the mountain goats at the club prefer.
1st past the post for Wigan was Mark Glynn in a personal best time of 17:44 with the next harrier home Dave Collins (19:42), desparately trying not to getted chicked by the 1st lady Jayne Taylor (19:54). Jacqui Jones was next home in 21:09 with Tracey Dutton (22:48), Kelly Anne Towns (23:03) and Nina Fisher (23:16) all running well. Shona Taylor rounded off the fantastic team turn out with 24:55.
The Pilkington bragging rights went to Dave and Shona’s hand picked “Sandboilers” team, who beat Mark’s luck of the draw “Your Pace or Mine team” by a mere 4 seconds. Had the 4 Wigan ladies decided to run as a team instead of as individuals they would have waltzed the team prize; maybe next year.
