The hardest part of my 26 miles & 352 metres journey, was actually making the decision to undertake it. Once taken, there would be no going back….I had never really wanted to extend my numerous half maras and multitude of 10k/5k events to this formidable distance. Continue reading
Arguably the biggest fixture of our cross country season takes place this Saturday with the 2nd round of the British Athletics Cross Challenge at Sefton Park. Over 1500 runners will assemble at the Liverpool venue with clubs from all over the UK sending teams to compete. Some of the leading names in the UK will be lining up to take on this fast but challenging course with a place in the European Championships in Belgrade at stake for the elite. Continue reading
On Sunday November 3rd Gary Wane left Wigan at 5.45am in the drizzle to Huddersfield for the White Rose Ultra. In his own words:
I arrived at Race HQ i.e.. a shed in a field with a pub at the end to register. By 7.15am I was back in my car with the heaters in full adding base layers as the weather was bitterly cold. After the race briefing all 71 competitors walked the half mile to that start. it was here i met a lady who informed me she was running for charity. She also starting telling me about the onsey she was wearing and after she had muttered the phrase, “I’m mad me I am,” I started to distance myself from her with visions of seeing her at the bottom of my garden staring at my house at 3am in the morning. The next fixture in the Red Rose Cross Country campaign takes place at Leverhulme Park in Bolton this Saturday. Many of our cross country warriors are ruled out following various marathon campaigns and niggling injuries leaving just a hard core of runners left to represent the club.
Mike Harris is promising a relaxing and gentle afternoon of rehabilitation jogging round the rolling inclines of the park. Anyone who has been before may instead be expecting a tough and hilly course with all the traditional muddy thrills and spills of a proper cross country race!
If that hasn’t persuaded wavering competitors to take part then nothing will!
Harriers will assemble from 12.30ahead of the senior ladies race at 1:35, with the senior men heading off at 2:15pm. Point your Sat Navs at BL2 6EB. There is limited parking available around the sports centre, and ample on street parking around the park itself.
Anyone who doesn’t already have a number can register and collect on the day for £6, which entitles them to race at no extra cost for the rest of the campaign. Unbeatable value!
Winter may have well and truly arrived but storm force winds and wet weekends haven’t slowed down the Endurance Group. The Thursday night session continues to grow with record numbers of runners turning up to train in the rain. It is hugely encouraging to see so many new runners joining us, and we hope you have all been made to feel welcome and are enjoying the sessions. It has also been an action packed month of cross country running, marathons (both on and off road), Ultra-marathons and the odd 10k thrown in. Continue reading
