There was another good turnout of Harriers at the 3 rd Harrock Hill race of the year. Everyone was keen for a good showing before the expected headline grabbing exploits of Millington and Waddington at the Lakeland 50! The course was firmer than the last race and this was reflected in improved times for all of our runners.
Andy Kaufman showed his fell running pedigree by holding 2 nd position for a large part of the race. He eventually succumbed to a chasing group to finish in 6 th place, but it was a sign of great things to come from the new recruit.
Shona Taylor has been training regularly on the course and the hard work paid off as she smashed her pre-race target of “under the hour” with a time of 53.32, to finish a highly satisfactory 125 th out of 148 finishers.
Jayne Taylor also had a great run. Despite losing a shoe in one of the boggy areas surrounding the stiles she still managed to take over two and a half minutes over her previous race time, to finish in 43.11; 55 th overall and 6 th lady. She was only 20 seconds away from the winning lady vet 50; a margin which was probably due to time lost having to go “up to the elbows” to rescue the shoe!
Dave Collins, Andy Eccles and Kev Edwards took chunks out of their race 2 times to record 37.04 (12 th ), 38.49 (22 nd ) and 39.54 (27 th ) respectively.
The barmy evening was just calling for a post race pint outside the Farmers Arms to watch the prize giving, with Jayne and Andy K each picking up a now iconic box of fruit and veg for their efforts.
